How to Work From Home as a Blogger

Interview with Successful Work at Home Mom, Becky Beach

Have you ever wondered about blogging as a work at home job?

Can you truly make money just by writing stuff online?

The truth is – you absolutely can! Many, many moms make thousands per month just by blogging. But it’s not easy. For every successful blogger, there are many more who throw in the towel early because it’s hard work.

Blogging is not a get-rich-quick kind of gig, and it can take many months, even years, to start to see an income from it.

Much of the success in blogging comes with going about it the right way. You have to know your niche, know your target audience, and be prepared to pump out high-quality, problem-solving content.

I’m so excited for today’s interview, because it is proof that blogging is absolutely possible.

Becky Beach is a work at home mom who’s been blogging for less than two years. In that time, she’s been able to build her blog to bring in $5,000 per month. That’s a full-time income for most people. Becky’s success story shows that it can be done.

I’m so happy Becky was willing to share her story with us today.

Here she is with her tips for how to work from home as a blogger.

Work at Home Advice from a Successful Blogger

how to work from home as a blogger

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and you got started as a blogger?

I’m a mom to a sweet 4-year-old, Bryan, am married, and have lived in Texas all my life. I was able to pay off over $150k by starting an online boutique that sold women’s handbags. In order to help other moms make money online, I decided to start a blog! The blog, Mom Beach, took off after a year so I decided to blog and sell printables full time.

What does a blogger do?

I think of myself as a content marketer that writes articles to promote my products. I do not pay for any ads, instead, I write articles that target certain keywords so that I get free traffic from SEO. I make printables and sell them for personal use at shop.mombeach.com and commercial use at plrbeach.com!

How long does it take to become a blogger? Is there a big learning curve?

My first month blogging I only made $1.50 from promoting Survey Junkie. It took time to earn a living at blogging, that’s for sure. Mom Beach is now in its 21st month and I earn $5k a month.

Did you take any special courses or classes or receive any special training for this job?

Yes. I have spent over $10k on blogging and marketing courses. Blogging is a whole other profession that requires an education. I spent $30k on my Bachelors degree so see spending money on education as an investment.

Bridget here – I know $10k sounds like a lot, but don’t let that deter you from starting your own blog! There are lots of blogging courses and training out there, but you don’t need to fork out a lot of money to get started. See further below where I talk about ways you can start your own blog without spending a lot of money.

How do you find work/clients?

I use content marketing to get free traffic to my blog. Then, I create free opt-ins for visitors to sign up for. After they have signed up, they are redirected to a “tripwire” sales page with a low-cost product. I earn most of my income from selling products using this method.

How do you find time to work as a stay at home mom?

Each morning, I get up at 5 am to start my day. My son sleeps in until 9 am so I get plenty of time. I never stay up late working because I need my rest.

What does your typical work week look like?

I will get up at 5 am and write a to-do list of everything i need to do that day. I like to plan out my weeks using a planner called the Living Well Planner.

Bryan wakes up at 9 am so I stop working and feed him breakfast and then we start his homeschool lesson. He naps for a few hours after lunch so I am able to work more then. When Bryan wakes up, I play with him and homeschool him some more.

When 6 pm comes around, I make dinner and my husband also comes home. I spend time with my husband and Bryan until Bryan goes to bed at 8 pm. After my son is in bed, I will spend time with my husband such as watch TV together or play a game. When it is 10 pm, I get ready for bed.

How much do you make per month and/or what is the earning potential for this job?

In my 21st month of blogging, I am making $5k a month. My traffic has been increasing to 3k-4k visits a day so I see my income rising. Some bloggers can make 6 figures a month through blogging so the possibility to earn more is there.

How much does it cost to get started? Are there any long-term costs associated with this job?

Hosting with BlueHost is a very low cost at $4.95 monthly. That’s the great thing about blogging, the costs are very low. Long term costs would be subscriptions to Tailwind, a Pinterest scheduler and a few plugins.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a blogger?

Don’t give up. I was ready to give up after blogging 6 months and only getting 100 pageviews a day. I thought no one cared about my blog at all. It just took time for me to rank in Google and Pinterest for the keywords I was targeting.

Anything else to add?

You are an extension of your business. If you aren’t successful, then it has to do with your mindset. I make sure to maintain a positive mindset in all areas of my life. I don’t let others bring me down with their negativity!

Thanks so much to Becky for sharing her blogging journey! I love to hear blogging success stories from other moms. Blogging definitely isn’t easy, but it is totally worth it!
